jet lag

due to jet lag and its side effects, i have been on an odd sleeping schedule for the past two days.

i arrived in maui, hawaii with the rest of the immediate simes clan,
yesterday around 8:10 pm [hawaii time] aka. 11:10 southern californian time.
[not that northern california and southern california are in different time zones..]

it's 11:05 pm maui time at the current moment [aka. 2:05 am in my home time zone].
basically, this all m
eans that i'm exhausted for the majority of the day and,
at night, when i should reallyy be exhausted, i can't seem to bring myself to retire to my pullout sofa bed.
it really is a mystery.

most likely my sister is going to read this blog post and get very upset that i am blogging while in beautiful maui, hawaii. but really, what else is expected of me at 11:05 [now 11:08] pm on a tuesday night in a foreign time zone with nothing else to do and no interest in sleep?

so, without further ado, welcome to maui, hawaii.
my home for the next two weeks.

"a jaw dropper, looks good when he walks; is the subject of our talks"

the title's just a note from adele.

i've always wondered why people have blogs.
what do they say in them?

are they just random thoughts that happen to be captured and typed down on a microsoft word-esque template?
or do people have blogs so the
y can finally unveil their most inner feelings to the world?
i'm not really sure.

i wanted to have a picture blog because i've always been better with pictures than with words.
i can't write elegantly like my sister. i end up going to thesaurus.com to see what they have to offer me to make my words sound a bit more luxuriant. [see what i mean?]

anyway. i'm always apprehensive before starting a new blog 'post'.
well, i shouldn't really say "always" seeing as how i only have two previous posts...
but i'm just never sure what to write down. what kind of things do people look for in other people's blogs that interest them?

i don't really get it.

so i've decided just to write down whatever is running through my mind.
on any given day at any given moment.

most of the time, those thoughts appear in picture form.

oh venicey.

i have decided i shall live in venice, california for a period in my life.

whether it's the perfect combination of busy and lazy combined in one, the canals running every which way through the neighborhoods in hopes of recreating venice, italy, or the endless street vendors attempting to sell anything from illegal drugs they grew themselves to putting your name on anything and everything you had ever imagined.
something about this place fascinates me.
or maybe it's everything.

june 1, 2009.

apparently i've been a blogger for quite some time and never actually had a blog. i believe though, that this initial entry on the first of june in the year two thousand and nine now makes me an official blogger.

i decided to celebrate this blogger achievement with my beta:
istio michael simes jr.
istio stands for "istiophorus platyperus"

[the scientific name for the sail fish]

background on istio's name:
when he first arrived in my dorm somewhere around april 20th, 2009 [a gift from my roommate]
he was a noticeably fast and furious fish, should i say. he could be heard ramming into the walls of his glass home into the wee hours of the morning.
i took it upon myself to decide that he was one of, if not THE fastest beta fish in existence, and decided to name him michael, after michael phelps [because if michael were a beta fish, HE would be the fastest alive].

others, however, decided michael was an inadequate name to give to a fish so i decided that if he could find the name of the fastest fish alive then i would consider renaming little michael.
well, he came upon the sailfish, which is apparently "the fastest fish" and because i decided "sailfish" was an inadequate, and just plain boring, name to give to a fish, i went with an abbreviated version of it's scientific name.

and that is how michael became istio michael simes jr.
[even though there is no senior preceding him, so technically he's not a junior, but we just decided it'd be fun].

so this is my official blogger entry.

hello to all other bloggers and i am indeed very happy to be here.
